The Katsina State Government has inaugurated a Joint Education Sector Coordination Committee aimed at streamlining and improving education across the state.

The committee was launched on Tuesday at the ERS conference hall by the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Zainab Musan Musawa, who chaired the event.

In her remarks, Hajiya Zainab highlighted key achievements recorded under the administration of Governor Dikko Umar Radda in the education sector. These include the renovation of over 150 schools, construction of new schools in Katsina, Funtua, and Daura, recruitment of more than 7,000 teachers with plans to hire additional staff, promotion of girls’ education through the AGILE programme, provision of scholarships and training, and youth talent development initiatives such as the “Catch Them Young” scheme, which equips girls with life skills and computer knowledge.

She, however, acknowledged the challenges confronting education in the state, including insecurity in some areas, shortage of teachers and learning facilities, exam malpractice, inadequate funding, and lack of a unified curriculum.

The commissioner urged parents, traditional leaders, and other stakeholders to collaborate with government to address these challenges and ensure no child is left behind.

“Education is the bedrock of development. The future of Katsina depends on the investments we make in our children today. We need your partnership and commitment to build a system that leaves no child behind,” she said.

The committee is expected to harmonise education policies, support sector-wide initiatives, identify gaps, and provide recommendations to strengthen the system.

The inauguration was attended by traditional rulers, representatives of education agencies, university officials, and stakeholders from primary, secondary, and tertiary institutions across the state.
